Thoughts on Serial

·5 mins
12/04/2014 Update: This post is as close to needing a retraction as possible. I could’ve sworn that in episode 9 (before the Thanksgiving hiatus of the show) that Sarah Koenig said that episode 10 was the last episode. Coupling that with the fact that I’d just looked at the Serial website while working on this post and thinking that the episode section of the site had listed 10 episodes with a blurred image for unaired episodes all along and I was sure that the show was coming to a close with what felt like a biased story at the 90% mark. Knowing now that Serial will continue into episode 11 (and beyond?) refashions this post into a snapshot of the thoughts I had at the time with said expectations of the show ending at episode 10, albeit a misconstrued piece of writing at best. Please accept my apologies for the mistake.

Relay FM Announced

·2 mins
My IRL buddy Stephen Hackett and my internet friend Myke Hurley officially announced their new podcast network Relay FM today. Here’s how Myke and Stephen summarize the launch: It makes sense for us to have a single home for all of our work; starting a network is the right decision for us. At launch, we are featuring four returning shows and one new one. We have lots of plans for the future, and can’t wait to get to work making those dreams a reality.

Pollen in the South

I joined Bradley again on the excellent Out of School podcast this week and had a great time chatting about Chrome OS, pollen in the southern US, and hiring and building IT team members.

Out of School: Episode 52

·1 min
I filled in for Frasier Speirs on this week’s episode of Out of School with Bradley Chambers aptly titled “How Do We Get This On A Chromebook?”. We discussed PowerSchool, the pending upgrade to Casper 9 and the recent deployment of Chromebooks that we implemented at work. It was a good time as always talking with Bradley about IT in education.

What The Prompt?!

·3 mins
On episode 45 of CMD + Space Myke Hurley and Stephen Hackett shared that the 512 Podcast would be ending in it’s current form after two more episodes. Myke mentioned that they’d be working on a show he’d been wanting to do for about 3 years now. On episode 65 of the 512 Podcast (out today) this show was revealed to be The Prompt, 5by5’s newest show. I reached out to Stephen to find out how he got started with 70Decibels and find out about the transition of the 512 Podcast to The Prompt.

Radiolab: Behind the Scenes

An interesting look behind the scenes of one of my favorite podcasts. If you’ve never heard of Radiolab it’s something you must check out.

Instacast in Public Beta

![Instacast In Public Beta](/images/rackspace/Instacast out of alpha.png) Update: If you’re upgrading from the alpha I would recommend clearing out all support files using a tool like AppZapper, Hazel or CleanMyMac. My favorite podcatcher for iOS has been in alpha for the Mac over the last few months and as of this morning is out in public beta. Martin and his team at Vemedio have been working hard and iterating quickly on the Mac version of Instacast and it’s really matured throughout the alpha. The initial design was scrapped and they’ve been listening closely to users for feedback and to make the best podcatcher for OS X.
